Troy James Hays, 26, of Sparta, Mo., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008.
He was born Sept. 7, 1981, in Creve Coeur, Mo., son of James and Ruth Poddig Hays.
Troy currently taught math, English and physical education, and coached the girls varsity basketball and boys varsity baseball teams at Bradleyville High School. He was a member of MSTA and had been senior class sponsor the past two years. He was a member of Whitewater Baptist Church at Patton.
Troy enjoyed motorcycles and all sports, especially basketball and baseball. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Troy was especially devoted to his son and girlfriend.
Survivors include his parents, Ruth and James Hays of Patton; his girlfriend, Ashley Parres of Sparta; a son, Thomas James Hays of Sparta; a brother, Dustin Hays and wife Michelle of Tennessee; a sister, Brandy Ratcliff and husband Randy of Patton; a nephew, Tristan Ratcliff of Patton; grandparents, Shirley Burns of Festus, Mo., James and Janice Hays of Patton, and Betty Poddig of Illinois; a great-grandmother, Irene Ivy of Affton, Mo.; future in-laws, Tom and Debby Parres of Jackson; Jennifer and Ryan Shelton of Tennessee; Kelly Parres and Josh Birk, Lesley and Nick Todd, Whitney Parres and Seth Bollinger, all of Jackson; and many family and friends.
Troy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Poddig, Lynnis Burns and Mary and Bernie Parres.
Memorial donations may be made to the Troy Hays Memorial Fund, in care of Legacy Bank, 7509 State Highway 14, Sparta, Mo., 65753.

Hey Mr. Hays was my teacher and had just started being my coach. I thought he was a very nice person and could be alittle scary at times but he was fun too. We had only had him for 2 days as a P.E. coach. Gosh after the firt day in P.E. we where so sore. Me and my friends coundnt even sit down to go to the bathroom,it was so funny.But when we heard about the accident it was like a nightmare you kept trying to wake up but you just couldnt wake up it was real. There was writing up on the board that we wouldnt let anyone erase and papers that we didnt want anyone to move cause in a way thats all we had left of him. He was a GREAT teacher and we miss him.
